The Time-Out -- A Postmodern Carol (#15 in a Series)

For this kid, Da-da's pretty sure the time-outs aren't working. Count your fingers.

After one particularly prolonged and drawn out squawk of a tantrum/four-alarm no-holds-grudge match between both boys, Da-da had to manage multiple time-outs that seemed to echo forever. This was bouncing around in his head.

THE TIME-OUT

[Sung to "THE TIME WARP," from "ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW"]

It's astounding, Time-Outs are fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
Da-da's got to take control

Da-da remembers giving the Time-Out
Drinking during moments when
The tantrum would hit him and Freud would be calling
Let's do that Time-Out again...
Let's give that Time-Out again!

It's just a sit on the left
And then a sit on the right
With your brain full eclipse
You squinch your eyes down tight
But it's the ironic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do that Time-Out again!

You're so screamy, oh fantasy free me
No one wants to BE me, no not at all
In another dimension, with inelastic attention
Undeluded, Da-da sees all
In a bit of a mind flip
You induced brother's stair slip
And nothing will ever be the same
Your spaced out aberration, like your brain's on vacation
Let's do that Time-Out again!

Sure you were sittin in your seat just a-havin a think
When your brother did something set you over the brink
He shook you up, he took you by surprise
He had your fire truck and the devil's eyes.
He stared at you and you felt a change
You whacked him in the head, you'd never do it again (but)
Let's do that Time-Out again!

It's just a sit on the left
And then a sit on the right
With your brain full eclipse
You squinch your eyes down tight
But it's the ironic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let's do that Time-Out again...
Let's give that Time-Out again!
